Just a light breeze and pleasant temperature: the 2011 World Championship starts with the Qatar race - by night, and on the verge of the desert.
Simone Grotzkyj Giorgi (2'09"835 - 14th) "We experienced a few problems the previous sessions, but today has been perfect. We did a consistent job, and have been able to follow the schedule. The first ten position are within reach and I'm confident - tomorrow, if everything is OK, we can really enjoy the race".
Taylor Mackenzie (2'10.373 - 20th) "Our best session so far. We have made small changes in the middle of the session, and improved a lot. When I returned on track, it was possible to follow the others more easily. Riding with the artificial light is strange - so many shadows - but it is OK".
Giulian Pedone (2'12”341 - 27th) "My position on the grid, through the
sessions, has always been the same, more or less, but I improved one second as lap time. I'm three times a beginner: I never competed at this level before, I never raced with artificial lights and I am a newcomer in this team. I hope the guys are satisfied with me - I know that we have a lot to do, but I push as much as I can".
Fiorenzo Caponera (Team Principal): "All our riders are beginners, today, because Simon competed here just once, years ago, and during the day, not with artificial light. It has been a productive session - the problems we are
experiencing were expected, in a situation in which young riders are confronting themselves with the World Championship. Our job is to help them establish themselves as professionals. And we want some good result,
along the way".
