Eric Willett (USA) and Enni Rukajarvi (FIN) won the slopestyle finals at the 29th annual 6Star Burton US Open presented by MINI. Riders had to deal with some tough weather at Stratton Mountain in Vermont, USA with foggy and rainy conditions. But, Eric and Enni pushed through and landed some impressive runs, especially considering the weather. They each earned a piece of the $200,000 USD event prize purse and 1000 Swatch TTR World Ranking points, which improved both rider's positions in the Swatch TTR World Tour standings. However, Jamie Anderson (USA), who placed second in today's slopestyle competition, and Finnish rider, Peetu Piiroinen, have already locked up the TTR World Tour Champion titles. The TTR Champion trophies and the $200,000 USD TTR prize purse will be awarded following Saturday's halfpipe finals.
Enni Rukajärvi Wins Slopestyle Finals Moving into World No. 5
The women dropped into the slopestyle course first for an exciting six-woman three run, best one counts final. Enni Rukajarvi powered through the tough conditions and threw down a 50-50 on the first rail, 50-50 to stalefish, fronside 360 on the first jump, another 50-50, backside 540 on the second jump and finished with a Cab 540. She was very happy with her win saying, "I'm stoked to have a good result here as it bumped me up in the TTR ranking. It's really important for me to be in the Top 5 so that I CAN get automatic invites to all the big TTR events next year." With her win today, Enni moved into the World No. 5 position. Jamie Anderson, who has been having an amazing year on the Swatch TTR World Tour and owns the World No. 1 position, finished in second place. Silje Norendal (NOR) completed the podium in third place and is now in the World No. 7 spot. Outside of the podium, Norwegian rider, Kjersti Ostgaard-Buaas, finished in fourth place improving her TTR ranking to World No. 2.
Eric Willett Take First Ever TTR Win and Moves to World No. 7
On the men's side, American rider, Eric Willett, took home the top spot on the podium. This was Eric's first win at the Burton US Open and his first major TTR title of the season moving him into World No. 7. When asked how he felt about winning the US Open slopestyle, he said, "I'm stoked. To come here and put down a run in these conditions is awesome. Everyone rode super well, I was stoked on that. And, to end the TTR season in the Top 10 with a 6Star win is awesome". Eric won with a smooth run throwing down a frontside 270 to boardslide, backside tailslide to 450 out, a Cab underflip 900 on the first kicker, tailslide to 270 out, frontside 900 on the second kicker and ended with a switch backside double cork 1080. Canadian ripper, Mark McMorris, took second place and moves into World No. 3. And, Chas Guldemond (USA) had a good day on the slopestyle course with some impressive tricks including a double backside rodeo and a Cab 1260 to take the third place spot and move into World No. 8.
