The Moto2 riders offered a thrilling race to the audience at Mugello, for the eighth event of the 2011 Championship. The weekend finished positively for Speed Master team. Andrea Iannone, who started from the fourteenth spot on the grid, managed to move up a few positions in the beginning and to get to chase down the group that was leading the race. The rider from Vasto maintained a consistent pace, getting rid of the gap that was separating him from the podium positions and getting into the fight for the third spot.
Andrea’s comeback, on the other hand, made the tyres wear out faster, which prevented him from battling with the top guys till the chequered flag. The team leaves from Mugello with a great fifth position, getting 11 points in the Championship Standing.
Andrea Iannone, #29 — race: 5th "I’m sorry I couldn’t finish the race in a better position, I wanted to achieve a better result. I tried my best, but at half race I pushed too much to move up: I exploited the tyres to reduce the gap from the riders that were leading the race and, in the end, it was difficult to maintain the pace. On the other hand we are satisfied because we are working in the right direction: we worked hard and, in the whole, I’m happy for how the weekend went. We are closer to being fast and competitive again in all the sessions, we believe we can go back to fighting for the top positions. I’d like to thank Suter, the team and everyone who supports me.”
