The Althea Racing Team is proud to announce that is has signed an agreement with young Italian rider Federico Sandi who will ride the Ducati 1198 in this year’s Italian Superbike (CIV) Championship.
Federico Sandi, 21 years of age and from Voghera in Italy, has extensive racing experience despite his young age, having raced over the last five years in the 125GP World Championship and the Superstock 1000 Championship as well as pariticipating in the CIV last year. He closed last year’s edition of the national championship in fifth position but arrives in Althea this year with bigger goals: to challenge for the title.
Sandi is the second Althea flagbearer in this year’s CIV championship; he will line up alongside new team-mate Luca Conforti.
The two riders have just concluded two very promising days of testing at the Vallelunga circuit. The tests gave both Sandi and Conforti the opportunity to find feeling with their Ducati 1198 machines while the team’s technicians made the most of the track time so make final set-up refinements ahead of this weekend’s official tests at Misano.
The first round of the Italian Superbike Championship is scheduled for 10th April at the Misano World Circuit.

“I am proud to join team Althea Racing. It’s a very professional team that works well, something you can see by looking at recent results! I had never had the opportunity to ride the Ducati before but, to my surprise, I immediately felt comfortable riding it during the initial tests. The bike is clearly competitive and fast and I am also happy with the Michelin tyres; to tell the truth, I can’t wait for the season to start! In 2010 I finished the CIV in fifth place so this year’s objective is to go for the title. I’m feeling confident and look forward to getting on track for the opening round at Misano.”
