Evgeny Bobryshev scored a solid top three finish in Saturday’s MX1 qualifying heat, ahead of Sunday’s main event in Glen Helen, USA. The result sets him up for a choice gate pick in tomorrow’s motos. Both Bobryshev and teammate Gonçalves got good starts, using the power of the CRF450R, rounding the first turn within the top five. By the end of the first lap Bobryshev was leading, a lead that would last for much of the first part of the moto. However, as the race developed, he began to lose time in the middle sector, making small mistakes in one of the steep uphill climbs and in the rutted sections. It was one of these mistakes that allowed eventual race winner, Clement Desalle, to catch and pass him. He would lose one further place to Max Nagl by moto end, as he encountered a malfunction with his tear-offs that lost valuable seconds. Teammate Gonçalves set a consistent pace thr oughout the moto, picking off Boissiere for 4th position at around half distance and repelling an attack from Philippaerts. However he would succumb to a late charge from Frossard, returning to the 5th position he held at the end of lap 1, come finish. Evgeny Bobryshev, Honda World Motocross “I was really happy with my start and passed two guys on second corner. I was a little bit struggling with the ruts, going slow in and fighting with the bike in the corners. In the last few laps, I made a mistake with the tear-offs and got them stuck in my line of vision, so I backed off a bit. I am a bit annoyed as every lap was not perfect, I was either making mistakes in the uphill or in the ruts or with my goggles, so 3rd is a good result I think.” Rui Gonçalves, Honda World Motocross “Yeah have been feeling good all day, track is really fast with a lot of jumps so have been enjoying myself. Today was a little bit of a test for me as I was trying a few new things with the bike, which seemed to work. The whole package has been working good. Top five is solid and this is where I need to be for tomorrow. Now my focus shifts to getting a good start again tomorrow and putting together a good race.”
